15/10/06 - Lesley and Rob from Brisbane Bound have said that they could recommend Anglo Pacific
for moving furniture and the Emigration Group as migration agents.  They described them as being
value for money with good ethics and providing a first class service.
What is Manchester"?  This is a sign you see in department stores and it means bedding.  I think
the term reverts back to when Manchester in England had the cotton mills and was responsible for
making the cotton sheets, etc.  (If anyone knows any different please let us know!).
YOUR COMMENTS AND QUESTIONS......
23.10.06 - Pam from Lancashire asks "do you have to take your visa to London to get it stamped?"
At the time of our visa being granted we were not allowed to take it, we had to post it with a return paid
envelope, both ways had to be special delivery and required a signature at both deliveries.  They took
4 days to be returned.
23.10.06 - Becki from the North asks " when the removers take your belongings is there anything
you have to do at the australian end to get them delivered (eg customs etc.)?
Reply - It depends on what you take, obvioulsy if customs want to speak to you they'll be in touch.
However on a straight forward case like ours we didn't have to do a thing, we signed a form allowing
Crown to do everything gon our behalf, when you get your quotes from companies make sure they do
this or you may have to make a trip to the port to sign forms.  Also make sure your customs release
charges are all included, I know of people who have been charged to get their items released as the
cost wasn't included in the amount paid to the removers, this is an additional cost of approximately
$500 - $600.
24.10.06 - Vicky asks " I'm moving over to Brisbane in 3 weeks is it easy to make friends?"

Reply - Hi Vicky, it's taken longer than anticipated to meet new people, but we're getting there, I'm
hoping that this site will help put people in touch and so more people get to know each other,
including ourselves. Have you seen the british expats forum, they have a section on meet and greets
in the Brisbane area, however if anyone wanted to arrange a meet up through this site I'd be happy
to post it for you, wherever you are in the world! Karen.x
If you have a question for a visa agent please post it and
Ross Walker from Thames Consular will be happy to answer
your queries.
30.10.06 - Tony (Almeria, Spain) comments that the site is great but he'd like to learn more about
sporting activites in Australia.

Reply - Hi, thanks for your comments, your idea is an excellent addition to our site and hopefully will
give people more information, we have now started this page and it can be accessed through the
clubs and hobbies link at the bottom of the home page.  Enjoy!
31.10.06 - Tony (Almeria, Spain) asks is there an age limit for emigrating to australia and what are
the ways older people can emigrate there?

Reply -  Hi, thanks for the question, there are various rules in relation to emigrating here and certain
criteria that have to be met, age does not prevent you from coming over.  More information can be
found on the website
www.immi.gov.au, this is the Government department and has a fully
comprehensive stie giving you all the rules, regulations and criteria.

01.11.06 - We have been sent this piece of information and hope it helps.  As we have said on this
website we were charged from Singapore to Australia for excess luggage as we had a stop over.  We
have been told by another immigrant that Singapore air say they will honour the luggage allowance
even with a stop over, however they will not confirm it in writing, the advcie is to print off the
emigration allowance information from the internet and take it with you.  It seems with this print off
they will honour the extra luggage allowance and won't charge you.  ( I wish we'd known this!!).
03.11.06 - I contacted GMTV in the UK to find out their dates for visitng australia and New Zealand
over the week leading up to Christmas so you can send messages back, the dates are as follows:
They did not have the venues, however you can get more information by going on the website
www.gm.tv and emailing them, they were very quick responding to my enquiry. Karen.x
18.11.06 - Michelle from UK says:  "Have nearly completed the whole process, the hardest part is
being questioned by everyone haven't you got it yet".
Isn't this the truth!?!?  People automatically think there's something wrong and you're not telling
them, but in truth it takes time and there's no set date for an answer.  Hang in there, you'll be here
before you know it, Karen.x
28.11.06 - Carolyn says: Hiya Found your site by chance when in nurses forum on british xpats.

19.01.07: Phil and Andrea from Northumberland:  Had our medicals today.Phil and I needed blood
tests and chest Xrays and the
kids just needed to be weighed, eyes tested ,tummy felt etc.Pretty painless really until it came to
parting with over £600!
Top tip- our nearest panel doctor was really expensive so I contacted the doctor in Edinburgh(about
a hundred mile drive) and booked an appointment with him.I didnt really mind the car journey. When I
called the local doctor to explain the reason for  cancelling  the appointment,he priced matched and
dropped his price by £230! This very same GP drives a Jag.Not surprising really!
